Be Careful What You Hear

Scripture: Romans 1:16
Devotional Series: Whosoever
Teaching: Whosoever pt. 1 (SUN_AM 2021-02-28) by Pastor Star R Scott

Be careful what you hear in this hour.  Faith comes by hearing by the Word of God.  So, if we’re going to grow in spiritual things, our faith will be built up by hearing the Word of God.  But you’ll have faith in the apostate system if you listen to their doctrine.  And they keep inundating us with the “fact” that the church should tolerate all of these sociological, philosophical ideologies in the church.  There’s such a love of this apostate church, this visible church, to be accepted by the world.  Much of the exposed church, today, is just a poor imitation of the world.  They try to imitate them in their music and have their concerts and the smoke grenades going off, and it’s just a cheap Super Bowl halftime performance.  The church is not to imitate the world.  That’s not who we’re created to be, the church.  We are a separate people, a holy nation; amen?  We are a peculiar people.  We’ve been set forth to bring praise unto God, the Scripture says.  Hallelujah!  We’re unique.  We’re separate.  The very word holy means separate.  The very word speaks of uniqueness, exclusiveness, separation.  So, that’s our hearts’ desire as the true church.  Separated from the world and separated to God.

Calvinism emerged from the Reformation.  And John Calvin being seen as a great theologian, a great exegete, established certain dogmas that many that came out of the Reformation embraced.  Tragically, these hundreds of years later, people are equating Calvinism with the gospel, and their leaders will tell you—John Piper, MacArthur—many of those men will come out and tell you, “Calvinism is the gospel.”  It’s that blatant.  It’s that blunt.  Well, I’ve got a problem with that.  The gospel is the gospel.  Amen?  And Romans 1 tells us, “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation.”  So, as we’re entering this hour, the primary influence of non-Roman Christianity is Reformation theology.  Whether it be in your Presbyterians, your Baptists, your Bible churches.  Whoever it is that embraces fundamental Calvinism.

One of the most dangerous things to the true church today is this reformed theology, because it uses so much Bible.  They use a lot of Bible, but not to prove their position.  That’s the irony.  There is no Scripture that lends support to the five pillars of Calvinist theology.  Those all come about from changing meanings of words by interpretation, adding to and taking away from what is stated in the Scriptures.  What does the Bible say happens to those who add to or take away from the Word of God?  They are accursed (anethema maranatha).  They were to be put to death under the old covenant.  And people have been so ready because of the stature of these men, their multiple doctorates, their ability to read Hebrew and the Greek.  As they go back and generation after generation parrot those before them.  If we’re going to parrot anybody, let us know those that labor among us; amen?  And let’s see the church that did that century after century, and let’s not stop, and allow to be authoritative, the truths that only came forth in the Reformation.  That’s only a few hundred years ago.
