Who is a Christian, really? What does a Christian look like? The very term itself, Christian, means “Christ-like.” You can’t be a Christian and live other than a Christlike life. John says that in his epistle about the Gnostics, that spirit of antichrist that was opposing the true church, you can’t have that dualism. You can’t bring a doctrine that says I’m right with God in my heart, but my flesh is sinful and carnal. ”Let us eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die, but we can be right with God in our hearts.” And John says in that epistle, not so, it’s he that doeth righteousness that’s righteous; amen? Jesus said it another way: By their fruits you shall know them. There are going to be many that come pretending to be sheep, but are wolves in sheep’s clothing. They’re going to come into our midst, lying in wait and bringing captive silly women going from church to church promoting disorder. And we see that in our society today, what’s under attack is the Christian family unit. We see it through the promotion of all the perversions of the gay movement. And we see it in the women’s liberation movement.
We see these particular things that are gaining power and strength in this society. We’d be foolish to think that we can be exposed to this day after day and not be vexed. We need to cleanse our minds with the Word of God on a daily basis; amen? Be washed by the water of the Word. Hide His Word in our heart that we wouldn’t sin against Him. And yet the church, today, the false church, is riddled with these doctrines of antichrist. Remember, the problem isn’t homosexuality. The problem is not rebellious women. The problem is antichrist; amen? All of those movements oppose what Jesus said the family was to look like. What the Word of God teaches the church is to look like. So, to embrace or to promote, to accept, to tolerate any of that within the church is inviting leaven, and a little leaven will leaven the whole lump.
So, what do we do? Ephesians tell us very clearly. We expose these things within the church. We reprove these things; amen? We take those people, and we mark them, and we put them outside of our midst, and we won’t eat with them. We saw in the first epistle of John; we don’t call them brothers. “Well, they go to First Presbyterian, they go to First Baptist, they go to First Assemblies of God,” whatever it might be. But they’re living and embracing this doctrine of the world. They are not our brothers and our sisters. I don’t care what church they go to, how much they name the name of Jesus, because the Bible says in the last day, they will say, “Lord, Lord didn’t we do all of this?” And Jesus is going to say, “Depart from Me, you workers of iniquity. I never knew you.” So why are we accepting what Jesus is rejecting? Why would we entertain this leaven? There is no fellowship between light and darkness; amen? The true church is the light of the world. So many people say, “Well, we don’t want to seem exclusive. And we don’t want to seem like that we’re the only people that have been enlightened.” Don’t allow that pressure of this apostate church to come upon you so that you fail to realize the church is a very exclusive group. Few there be that find it; amen? The broad road leads to destruction; the narrow road leads to life eternal. It’s an exclusive group.
