Jesus Needed to be Filled

Scripture: Matthew 3:16
Devotional Series: Holy Ghost Guidance
Teaching: Holy Ghost Guidance pt. 1 (SUN_AM 2021-04-11) by Pastor Star R Scott

How do we beat this thing in the flesh that keeps being a besetting sin to us?  Why not forget about trying to fight that and walk in the Spirit?  Listen to the voice of the Holy Ghost.  Stop being preoccupied with that and listen to the voice of the Holy Ghost.  That will have us out serving other people, that’ll have us humbling ourselves.  That’ll have us witnessing and sharing the gospel with others, and the next thing you know, all these things that we’re so preoccupied with that dominate our flesh are gone because we have our heart and mind set on the things that are eternal, the things of the Spirit of God; amen?  That’s how you get free from besetting sins.  Don’t fight the sin, obey the Spirit.  Let Him lead you in the direction that Jesus walked in, and you’ll be able to really experience great victories.

Jesus went into the synagogue and He opened the scroll and read from Isaiah 61.  Luke 4:18-19 says, quoting Isaiah 61, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because He has anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek.  And He sent me to build up the brokenhearted and proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison doors to them that are bound.”  Then He sat down, and as every eye was fastened upon Him, He said, “This day it’s been fulfilled in your ears.” Everything Jesus did in this victorious walk was by the Holy Ghost.  If Jesus needed to be filled with the Holy Ghost, what about us; amen?  Those of you who have not yet been filled, make it a priority.  If Jesus needed it to fulfill the call of God, we need it to fulfill the call of God.  You want to prepare for these days of persecution that are coming?  We need to be full of the Holy Ghost.  He’ll lead us out of danger.  The Holy Spirit will speak to you!  Aren’t you glad for the voice of the Holy Ghost?  How many of these things do we brush off?  It may not cost you your life, but do you know what it is costing you if you don’t obey that voice?  It’s costing you a life that walks in the Spirit.  If we keep ignoring the voice of the Holy Ghost, He won’t be talking to us because he gives the Holy Spirit to those who obey.  How important it is!

If Jesus needed to be filled with the Holy Spirit to be successful in His ministry, how much more you and I?  We see those prophetic statements that were made and then we see it coming to pass in actuality in Matthew 3:16, “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him.”  John 1:32 says, “And John [the Baptist], bear record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.”  We know from the Scriptures the Spirit that descended not only abode upon Him, but remained and was without measure, the Scripture says.  How necessary it is to be full of the Holy Ghost, that we could finish the work of the Father, that we would have the privilege of communing with the Father, of coming into His presence boldly, of being able to hear that still, small voice that says, “This is the way, walk in it.” And when you hear that voice, we respond with, “Praise God, Here we go!”
