This is That

Scripture: Acts 2:16-17
Devotional Series: Why Tongues
Teaching: Why Tongues? pt. 1 (SUN_AM 2023-07-16) by Pastor Star R Scott

Verse 26 says in Romans, Chapter 8, “The Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.  And He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose,” hallelujah.  When we don’t know how to pray, the Holy Ghost prays through us; amen?  We’re in an hour right now where there is turmoil, and we don’t know what’s going to happen in this government, in this world.  We already see so much financial chaos taking place in the world.

We see that China is in great economic trouble right now in different areas and we see the problems here in America that we’re facing, and we do know one thing: that the Antichrist is coming into prominence by solving a world economic problem.  Come quickly, Lord Jesus.  And those that “love his appearing” (2 Timothy 4:8) are going to see Him but if we have that hope of His soon return, we will be purifying ourselves even as He is pure (1 John 3:2-3).  Let me tell you, one of the greatest ways of purifying yourself is praying in the Holy Ghost.  He will pray according to the will of God.  Let’s say it another way: He will pray through you according to the Word of God.  Those promises that have been made to us, the assurances of our victory.  We’ll see as we go on there’s a divine, supernatural thanksgiving for the goodness of God, even when we don’t feel like it, even when our emotions are out of control, even when we’re fearful, even when we’re feeling sorry for ourselves and depressed, we pray in the Holy Ghost and give thanks well, hallelujah.  I think that in and of itself is a good reason to speak in tongues (amen?) because God deserves His glory, hallelujah.

And so, on the day of Pentecost—back to Acts (Chapter 2)—when it had fully come, verse 4 says, “They were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”  Go and tarry, the day of Pentecost fully come.  The power of God, the presence of God, manifesting itself to them.  It’s identified that what’s taking place in verse 16, as Peter goes forth and makes this declaration, “This is that which was prophesied by the prophet Joel”; amen?  So now, we have at the mouth of Peter, no question as to what the day of Pentecost was and that what was happening—the speaking in tongues—was prophesied by Joel.

We don’t have Joel saying they were going to speak in tongues, but this is that; amen?  This is that.  You can look over at Joel, Chapter 2, verse 28.  Peter references it here, “This is that…and it will come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy” (Acts 2:16‑17).  Let me tell you something young people—listen, some of you teenagers, some of you young adults, some of you newly marrieds, God wants to manifest Himself through you.  We don’t wait for the next generation, or the preceding generation.  This is your time.  This is a promise to every generation, we’ll see as we finish this chapter.
