Don’t Diminish the Word
Scripture: Acts 10:34-35Devotional Series: Preparing for Persecution
Teaching: Preparing For Persecution pt. 7 (WED 2021-05-05) by Pastor Star R Scott
We’ve been given the admonition that we’re not to add to this Word or diminish from this Word. I found the church of Jesus is not adding to the Word, that’s not becoming our problem. It’s the diminishing of the Word, it’s what we’re leaving out. It’s that message on sin. It’s that message on separation. Come out from among the world, touch not the unclean thing and I will receive you, saith the Lord; amen? So, we’re living in a day when so much of the church is compromising. How do people living in sin fit into the church today? Well, the way they fit into the church is to come, repent of their sins, become a new creation, and then take up their cross daily and follow Jesus. That’s how they fit in. Without that, they’re sinners under the judgment of God. It’s appointed unto all men to die, and then they’ll stand before God and get their judgment.
Part of our job as the church is not to say to sinners that they just need to find a church that meets their needs. Don’t even use the word church. How dare you! God loves the whole world! He died for every one of us. But nobody is getting past the judgment. Let’s not diminish from the Word of God. Our focal point is the gospel, the good news that Jesus died and was made sin with our sin. That’s what we focus on. But people want to stand up and make themselves exceptions to the kingdom of God. There are no exceptions. God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34-35), and you have to come the way every other person does. Your sin is no more unique. You chose to be what you are. You can choose to repent of pride and selfishness and humble yourself and bow your knee to that name of Jesus which is above every name, praise God! Come like the rest of us, because the sin that you have is no worse than my sin.
Every one of us has to come through repentance and recognize that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. That’s what we need to keep going in our hearts as we’re out preaching the gospel in this last hour. So, don’t get caught up in trying to argue about their particular sin. It’s no different than anyone else’s sin. It’s taken care of by simply repenting, humbling yourself, acknowledging and believing in Jesus Christ. The enemy will try to keep you from addressing the sin problem, in this armor, going out and preaching this gospel, our feet shod with the gospel of peace; amen? Because we think that we’re going to get into a situation that’s above our heads, dealing with these social, psychological issues, and we don’t even let ourselves go there. If you have the armor on, you’re confident that the gospel is the power of God to salvation.
Father, we thank You for Your Word, and we just ask that You would stir us in our attack on the enemy. Stir us and make us hungry for the power of God rising up within us and letting us represent You as ambassadors. We are the ambassadors of the King of kings and the Lord of lords, and we’ve been given a declaration to go into this domain and to declare, to make it known, “We’re the power here.” We’re the power here. We’ll be hated for it. Men will say all manner of evil against us. Our closest friends will become our worst enemies, but You will eventually say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” Let us work toward that, Father, and we’ll give You all the praise, in Jesus’ name; amen.
