Ask According to His Will

Scripture: 1 John 5:14
Devotional Series: Effectual Fervent Prayer
Teaching: Effectual Fervent Prayer pt. 4 (SUN_PM 2023-04-02) by Pastor Star R Scott

A large amount of our prayer time ought to be spent reminding ourselves of how good God is.  Prayer is not just petition; prayer is praise; prayer is thanksgiving (amen?); prayer is boasting in God.  Once we get away from the pursuit of things—an easier life, a better life—and begin to praise Him and come boldly into His presence, we will find grace to help in the time of need; amen?  “This is the confidence we have in him (1 John 5:14 says), that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him”; amen?  Thank God for the confidence that we have in Him.

He has gone before you and made a way where there is no way.  His glory is our rear guard.  Everything we touch shall prosper.  Everywhere that we place our feet, we will be dominant there.  So, let’s praise Him, and let’s boast in our Father and His love for us.  Many of us are hindered in our prayer lives because we don’t know that righteousness:  we have messed up, so we think we have to go and make things right; so we get into a works mentality.  I don’t care how much you messed up this week, God is your Father and He loves you; He will not turn His back on you when you are messed up.  When we were sinners, He was the pursuer; we didn’t pursue Him: “There is none that seeketh after God.”  He will seek you again and He will bring conviction to you again and He will show you mercy and grace once more and give you what it takes to confess the sins you are too proud and self‑righteous to admit.  He will enable us because of His love.  “If we will confess our sin, he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins, and to cleanse us” back into sonship as a known reality (1 John 1:9).  Did you hear what I said? “…as a known reality.”  He has never seen us any way other than righteous through the blood of Jesus; it is we who need to be reminded.  So, pray, and don’t faint.

Father, we thank You for Your Word and Your love.  We thank You that our prayers are effectual.  We have confidence that, when we ask according to Your will, You hear us, praise God.  Now let us come and sit at Your feet and get quiet and hear the will of God and begin to intercede for the lost, the broken, to intercede for our loved ones who are overcome by the enemy.  Let us keep our eyes on the horizon, looking for that repentant prodigal to return.  We do not run after him; he returns to us, the Scripture says.  We sit, knowing how good You are, and look for that day of celebration.  We thank You for adding souls to Your church supernaturally.  Prepare hearts for us, into which to sow seed and to water.  Let us go on the job tomorrow believing for converts—eyes to be opened, with scales falling off—for people to become overwhelmed by our love and God’s love when we tell them, “Come home; come on home:  God’s justice has been appeased by Jesus dying for your sins.”  It’s a supernatural work; so, we go our way praying and believing for You to show Yourself in our lives as we do Your will and pray that Your will be done, and believing that You will work with us as we share this precious and powerful gospel.  We believe it and receive it in Jesus’ name; amen.
