Scripture: Matthew 6:8Devotional Series: Effectual Fervent Prayer
Teaching: Effectual Fervent Prayer pt. 4 (SUN_PM 2023-04-02) by Pastor Star R Scott
God is no respecter of persons: He is there for you, so He tells you in this passage, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow”; amen? The thing that keeps each of us in turmoil, when we allow it, is thinking about tomorrow: “What if?” “What if my child defects?” Why would you even consider that? “Well, so many others have.” Well beloved, “A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee” (Psalm 91:7). “But they believed that, too.” Well, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t believe it, because it’s the promise of God; amen? You want to believe something? “Believe this: “I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day” (2 Timothy 1:12); amen? There is something to meditate on. “If God be for us, who can be against us?” That is something to meditate on. “For all the promises of God in him are ‘yea,’ and in him, ‘Amen’”; let’s think about those things; amen? Why? It’s because He is our Father; He is the Giver of every good and perfect gift; He is that great Father of Lights, in whom there is no variableness, nor shadow of turning; He is the God whose ears are open to the cry of the righteous; He is the One who says, “Come unto me…and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). So, He tells us, “Don’t take thought, and don’t say what God is not saying.”
Some people are afraid because, a decade ago, they made comments other than their faith statements, and somehow that unravels and undoes everything. First of all, if you originated the confession, it doesn’t hold any weight anyway; amen? And let me tell you another thing: What God has promised, you can’t un-confess, because His Word is eternal, it’s powerful, and it’s sharper than any two‑edged sword; it is a discerner of the very thoughts and intentions of our hearts (Hebrews 4:12). This Word, the Mirror into which we look, shows the intentions of our hearts; it convicts us when our prayers are awry. He will reveal to us, “No, no, no: you’re praying your will; get your mind off yourself.” Do you want me to tell you the best way to get your mind back on track? Pray in the Holy Ghost, come into the presence of God, and lift Him up in praise. We all know this. It’s all so simplistic. We have seen it year after year, day after day, in our hearts. Verse 32: “Father knoweth”; amen? We previously quoted the passage: “Before they call, I will answer” (Isaiah 65:24). Father knows what things we have need of; amen? So here is my advice to you: The red ink says, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness.” Let’s spend time praying for the kingdom to be manifested. Let’s spend time praying that the kingdom would be manifested so that the commandment and the will of God, that we would love one another, will be preeminent in our lives. Seek first the kingdom of God: the desire and heart of God is that we would go into all the world and make converts, make disciples. So, his admonition to us is to seek the kingdom, the righteousness, of God.
We wouldn’t have to pray about all these other things if we were convinced that we are right with God. When you know you are right with God, when you know you are the redeemed of the Lord, when you know that you are an heir and joint‑heir with Christ Jesus, when you know you have been justified and pronounced right with Him, how can you concern yourself with any need; it is His will to give you His kingdom and all of its benefits. Why would we ever think anything less? Even being carnal, look at the measures you take to meet the slightest need of your children, yet God is Love and eternal and infinite, and He loves us with an infinite love, He loves us with an eternal love, and He will never leave you nor forsake you; so why do you worry?
