If God Said it, Let’s Do it

Teaching: Effectual Fervent Prayer pt. 3 (SUN_AM 2023-04-02) by Pastor Star R Scott

There was something with Kathryn Kuhlman that I watched recently.  It was the Jesus Revolution movie.  If you have not seen it, it is good.  It is mostly accurate, and it shows a great time of revival in this country.  What will happen if we believe in God and open our hearts to His purposes?  Sometimes it changes our lives.  We went through the same thing in our church in California when God began to bring in some of the hippies.  It was interesting to watch some people’s eyebrows go up when these barefoot, long-haired, young people came into the church.

There was one thing in that whole Jesus Revolution movie that I liked the best.  It was when the people sat on one side of the church, all prim and proper, and all the hippies were on the other side of the church.  He made a statement that was something like this: “Let’s look at John, Chapter 3.”  On one side of the church, all the hippies got their Bibles.  About four or five people on the other side had their Bibles.  That was a revival of the Word.  The main theme for the Jesus movement was the rapture of the church, the Second Coming.  Hal Lindsay wrote a book: The Late Great Planet Earth.  Pretribulation was set firmly into the hearts of those that were experiencing regeneration, the new birth at that time.  There was a simplicity in it.  “If God said it, let’s do it.”

They depicted Kathryn Kuhlman in that movie, and they made her even weirder than she was.  She was an interesting lady.  I do not know that I have ever been in a meeting that had a more tangible awareness of the presence of God.  My uncle was healed in one meeting from a back problem that he had from running into a concrete wall at 150 miles an hour at Riverside Racetrack.  That is not advisable, especially with the way those cars were built back then.  He could never get comfortable.  He was in constant pain.  He developed a twitch from it.  I can still see him right now, always moving that shoulder.  He was instantly healed in that meeting, and he never had a problem again.  Many others were healed.

There were a lot of questions about people falling under the power of God.  It went from some real manifestations of God’s power at that time, into the perversion of the eighties.  People were being pushed over, and they began to bring catchers into meetings and do different things.  But I will never forget the platform. They had all the pastors sitting up on the platform.  I was seated close, from about where this chair is to the pulpit, that was where Sister Kuhlman stood.  They had all these dignitaries there because it was a citywide meeting.  They had people there from First Presbyterian, First Baptist, and many other denominational churches.

It is like it happened yesterday.  I can still remember her turning and saying, “Gentlemen, stand up.”  And they all stood.  It was summer.  It was hot.  A couple of them had their white suits on and different things. They were all standing there, and she raised her hands.  She just raised her hands and did not say or do anything.  She raised her hands, and every one of them just fell into a heap.  They were instantaneously on the floor.  She watched them get up, straighten their ties, arrange their suits, and look around.  She had a little smile on her face.  She just lifted her hands, and they were all on the floor again.  The Power of God.
