Practice the Presence of God
Scripture: John 14:16Devotional Series: Sovereignty and Prayer
Teaching: Sovereignty and Prayer pt. 5 (SUN_AM 2024-12-08) by Pastor Star R Scott
The Lord is good and His mercies endure forever. We want to continue looking here into the great and precious privilege that God has given us of being able to boldly access the throne of God; amen? We come boldly, it says in Hebrews, the tenth chapter, through the blood of Jesus. Our access to God is because Jesus has already met that propitiation factor. God has been reconciled back to His people through that great, sinless, sacrifice. God, having become flesh, dwelt among us, lived a sinless life, took our sin upon Himself, took the punishment and the wrath of God on our behalf, has gone to the heavens, and is making intercession for us, and given us a great promise, “that where I am, there you shall be also.” Amen? “If I’ve gone and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself.” Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus.
Up until that time, He’s left a task for you and me. He left us here to continue on this great message of the gospel of Jesus Christ, this great message of the coming of kingdom of God. Remember, there’s going to be a millennial kingdom that will literally manifest itself on the earth, but we need to understand one thing. Right now, the kingdom is manifesting itself in power. Jesus came and preached the kingdom of God. This was the message that He brought to the Jews first and then, of course, on to us Gentiles. When He had finished the work, the Scripture says, it was time for Him to ascend back to the Father and He said, “If I go back to the Father, I will send you another Comforter.” Another meaning, one of the same kind. The Holy Spirit has come to continue the ministry of Jesus but He’s doing it now, not in person, but through His body, the church. That’s why the statement was made, “These things shall you do and greater things than these shall you do because I go to the Father.”
Now, we know that they are not greater in magnitude but they are greater in quantity because Jesus was limited to His fleshly body and the ministry that He could perform in time and space. Now He’s gone and the same Spirit, and we forget this so much, the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. That same Spirit dwells in us and is now manifesting Himself and quickening and making alive our mortal bodies. Now, that doesn’t just mean for healing. He’s making alive our mortal bodies in enabling us to complete His ministry, but now we’re doing it as the church world-wide, now not one but millions, praise God! We should act no differently than He acted. “Those that have seen you (Jesus said) have seen Me.” Amen? How? How is that able to manifest itself? Only when we take full advantage of our prayer lives. Only when we abide in Him and His words abide in us, then we can ask whatever we would and it would be done unto us.
We talked about the intimacy of prayer; prayer is practicing the presence of God. That’s why we can pray always. We’re just always aware that He’s there. Don’t you love it in those times when you’re able to sense that presence? The fact that we’re not sensing Him or I’ll use another word “feeling” Him, doesn’t mean He is not there. “For I will never leave you nor forsake you.” That prayerfulness in the person of the Holy Ghost dwelling, now, within us and bringing to our remembrance all things that Jesus taught and that He did. As He’s bringing those to our remembrance, we’re remembering what Jesus did and the Holy Ghost is always saying, “and these things shall you do and greater.” When the Holy Ghost speaks in our lives, it will always be to magnify, to glorify, the Lord Jesus.
