Jesus Bore Our Griefs
Scripture: Isaiah 53:4-5Devotional Series: The Holy Ghost and Power
Teaching: The Holy Ghost and Power pt. 2 (SUN_AM 2024-10-13) by Pastor Star R Scott
As we study Isaiah 53, remember, there’s a very present working of satanic powers to diminish our full rights of redemption. Wholeness—that’s what “salvation” means, wholeness—spirit, soul and body, praise God! So, Isaiah speaks here under the unction of the Holy Ghost in the fifty-third chapter, and it says, “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows.” That word “griefs” is very clear, it has to do with sickness. You’re going to want to put it in your notes, or make sure that you refresh yourselves with this. “Surely, he has borne our sickness, weakness and pain.” Hallelujah! “Surely, he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Can you say, “Praise God”?
Now, many people would tell us that this healing that’s manifested here, spoken of in Isaiah 53, was just a spiritual healing, and that’s what most Christians will tell us today. “This healing, this bearing our iniquities, had to do just with our sins. It doesn’t have anything to do with the physical man.” And yet, we go over to the book of Matthew, and as we’re looking at the different aspects of the ministry of Jesus, we see in Matthew, Chapter 8, these words. He’s been ministering and showing Himself powerful. He healed the leper at the beginning of this eighth chapter. The centurion’s servant is healed. He showed that great faith, verse 8 says that, he said, “If you’ll just speak Your word only, and my servant will be healed.” And Jesus was amazed, impressed with this great faith. “I have not found so great a faith in all of Israel.” He said to this non-covenant believer. But He touched on the authority, and as we look at the sovereign power of God, the Lord just speaking a word only. I mean, after all, He spoke the worlds into existence; amen?
I’m saying all that to say that as we go on, and we’re going to talk about some of the different aspects of how healings occur. One of the obvious biblical manifestations is through the laying on of hands. We saw with the apostle Paul that, that anointing that was in Him, that same anointing that was in Jesus who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil. Beloved, we have the power of God residing in us in the person of the Holy Ghost. There’s a power in us, it’s transferable, an anointing that we can lay hands on people and actually pass that to another generation, pray over your children, hold them in your arms and release that anointing and that power into their lives and believe God to fulfill that by His divine power and in His divine sovereignty—it’s real; it’s tangible. Handkerchiefs were taken from the apostle Paul, and when they were laid upon the sick, they recovered! They laid people in the streets. Listen! We’re talking about—where is the power? Where are the signs and wonders that should be following us today? They laid people in the streets peradventure Peter’s shadow just came across them. Do we need to start believing God for greater things than what we’ve been seeing? “Well,” you say, “Peter is not here.” No, He’s not. “But these signs shall follow them that believe in my name.” We may not be Peter, but we believe in the name; amen. “These signs shall follow them that believe in His name.” “We shall,” the Scripture says.
