Be Fruitful in Every Good Work

Scripture: Colossians 1:11
Devotional Series: The Spirit of Truth
Teaching: The Spirit Of Truth pt. 4 (SUN_AM 2021-09-19) by Pastor Star R Scott

You know, you bring up a topic in here, and we’d have as many opinions as there are people.  “Well, we’re getting ready to paint the auditorium, what color do you think it should be?”  “Chartreuse.”  “Cotton candy pink.”  “Black.”  But when it comes to the Word of God, we don’t have that luxury.  You’re called to get in line with the Word of God; amen?  And God has provided for that by setting—as you read in Ephesians 4, the gifts within the church are to make sure that we’re all marching in the same direction with the same objectives and mindset.  Some fail in the process.  But the good man gets up seven times; amen?  We’re there to help them up.  We’re there to admonish them, to bring them instruction.

As we end with this aspect of the longsuffering, I want to look at one more verse.  I think it’s important.  Look at Colossians, Chapter 1, verse 11.  He is admonishing us that he is continually praying for the church at Colossae.  He said my prayer, verse 9, is “…that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance…Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.”  So, Paul’s longing for the church in Colossae knowledge to bring us into unity.  Power to bring us into unity.  Revelation to bring us into that oneness.

Be prayerful and ask yourself:  “Am I an agent of bringing us together, or am I a cause of schism and strife, of judging others, a critical spirit, selfish, always having to inject my two cents; or can we walk as one who doesn’t have to vaunt themselves, isn’t puffed up, doesn’t behave himself unseemly, one who bears all things, endures all things, for love never fails.

Father, we thank You for Your Word.  Pierce our hearts.  “Well, we’ve heard this teaching fifty times.”  Then why aren’t we doing it?  “I’ve heard this!”  Then why aren’t you doing it?  The fact that you’re not doing it tells me that you have not heard it yet; because it’s those that do and teach others that Jesus said are wise, are perfect in His kingdom.  Let it manifest, Father, and let Your name be glorified in our midst, and we’ll give you all the praise for it in Jesus’ name, amen.
