When the Spirit of Truth is Come
Scripture: John 16:13Devotional Series: The Spirit of Truth
Teaching: The Spirit Of Truth pt. 1 (SUN_AM 2021-09-12) by Pastor Star R Scott
As Jesus came out of that baptism, the Spirit of God came and filled Him at that particular moment, lighted upon Him, rested upon Him. The implication being “abode,” just like we’re supposed to abide in Him and His Word abide in us; amen? The Holy Spirit came and didn’t rest upon Him for a particular action, like in the Old Testament. The power of God came on Samson and he carried the gates off, and the power of God came upon Samson and he was able to rend that lion like a kid. But you weren’t able to take Samson and just run him off to the Olympics for Israel or for the nation that he was representing. He couldn’t just do it when he wanted. The Spirit came on him and enabled him and then departed. Jesus and you and I have a different relationship. He is in us; amen? Isn’t that what the Holy Ghost says? He is in us; He’s resident. He’s there 24/7. How often are we drawing on that? So that Spirit that came upon Jesus, that Spirit that caused that anointing of the Holy Ghost in power, enabling Him to go and do good and heal all that were oppressed of the devil, for God (the Holy Spirit) was with Him.
When the Bible speaks of one Person of the Godhead, though we know They are discernible in Their division, They are yet one. “…the Lord our God is one….” There are not separate thoughts going on; everything is done in unity. The diversity of Their role in the redemption of man is spelled out in the Scriptures, and we see a purposeful revelation of the different operations that each Person has in the plan of redemption. We don’t know how God fully operated before the revelation of creation, in revelation before creation. But as it pertains to redemption, we see the Person of the Father, the Person of the Son, and the Person of the Holy Spirit. There was a glory and equality with Father before creation, and Jesus spoke of that. He said, “Father,”—the revelation—“the glory that I had with You”—prior to the incarnation. Just referencing back to those things so we never forget the divinity of Son, of Holy Spirit.
When we see the recognition of the Father and crowns are cast at the Lord’s feet and all that Jesus did is surrendered unto the Father, this is a revelation of the declaration that Jesus made, “It is finished.” This whole course now has been run of God’s creation, His dealing with humanity and all of His other creation. The creation is going to be judged; this world is going to be purged and purified; amen? All that was tainted by sin will ultimately experience the purging, the purification, the reconciliation back to God, to His authority, as we see the book of Revelation coming to an end. And there will be a new heaven; there will be a new earth. There is a kingdom that we all live in, as living stones. We have a name that is so intimate that only He knows it. We will see Him and we will be like Him, praise God! Now, until then, we’ve got a job to do.
If Jesus had to be filled with the Holy Spirit, empowered with the Holy Spirit, to be successful in this ministry that He was involved in, how much more we? Amen? It’s very interesting, as we see the continuation of this thought, we see in John 16, verse 13, it talks about the Spirit. It says, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come,”—the Spirit of Truth is come; go to Jerusalem, tarry, wait for the promise—and “when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth….” Next chapter, John 17:17, “…thy word is truth.” He’s going to counsel you through the Word. “Father, how shall You know us, and how shall we be able to know You and the world doesn’t know You?” He gives insight right there. It’s because their eyes are blinded to the truth. The Word of God is foolishness to them.
The natural mind cannot receive the things of the Spirit; amen? They are foolishness. So how is it that He’s going to manifest Himself to us and not to the world? Through the Word—through the Word—got to live in the Word. The Word has to be truth. The Word has to be the source of truth for every small decision you make. “Well, this is down here at my pay grade level. I can make these decisions.” Without Him we can do nothing.
