None Good but God

Scripture: Matthew 19:17
Devotional Series: Money: Not the Root of All Evil
Teaching: Money: Not The Root Of All Evil pt. 4 (SUN_AM 2024-10-06) by Pastor Star R Scott

The Bible is full of absolutes.  There’s no gray area.  So, we’re very conscious of all of the philosophies.  We’re able to discern and see what it is that this world’s system delights in, their gods, if you please.  Their gods.  Their gods of education, boasting in the accomplishments of men.  Secular humanism, the deification of man, the loving of the creation more than the Creator.  We live in a time, now, where there is no truth.  From the world’s perception, there are no real true absolutes, the abstractness of life.  But there are truths.  They’re all laws that are irreversible, and one of them is this.  The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death as we live in that law and we trust in that law and in the promises of God.  He’s the one that said, “I’m coming soon.”  He’s the one that said we’re to prepare ourselves and to purify ourselves from this world’s system.

What does the world love?  Well, we’ve been looking here in the Pauline Epistles.  One thing that he says is in the last days men will be lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God; amen?  Our hedonistic society, a love of pleasure, entertainment.  Look at us as a nation.  I think it’s kind of interesting.  We have all of this entertainment, whether it be from Hollywood or from the sports arenas or whatever it might be that distracts people.  We’re possibly on the verge of World War III, and people are more interested in the score of the ball game.  We’re on the brink of the return of the Lord Jesus Christ to the earth, and we’re more concerned with the stock market or where we can acquire a deal on more stuff.  Lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God.

A large part of the American church, today, is under the under the control of the damnable heresy that’s referred to in 1 Timothy, Chapter 6.  It basically says, “gain is godliness.”  We hear Joel Osteen, Kenneth Copeland and T.D. Jakes, some of these men are what many measure Christianity by today, just because of the visibility of their particular ministries.  In an American mentality, when we believe that big is better, we look at some of these institutions and think because so many people seem to be endorsing and part of what they’re doing, that it must be blessed of God.  It’s nothing new.  There is no new thing under the sun; amen?  But they’ll tell us things like, “Let’s look at this Bible verse right here, that God wants to bless you a hundredfold.  The way that’s going to happen is you’ll give into my ministry.  Because we are the voice of God, we’re obviously the most spiritual people around.  Look how many people support us.”  Let me remind you of one thing.  The majority is wrong.  I’ll say it again.  The majority is wrong.  How do I know that?  Because “few there be that find it;” amen?  Not many people are going to make it to heaven.  Are we making ourselves ready?

Jesus said, as it pertains to wealth, it’s a very difficult thing for rich men to make it into heaven.  It’s difficult.  Very difficult thing for these to make it into heaven.  The rich young ruler, came to the Lord in Matthew 19:16 and said, “What shall I do that I might inherit eternal life?”  Jesus quoted some passages of Scripture, first of all asking him, “Why do you call me good?”  “Good master, what must I do…”  “There is none good but…God.”  “Are you acknowledging me as God?  Are you acknowledging me as the Way, the Truth and the Life?  If you’re going to make it, keep the commandments.”  I’ll just make that as a generic statement to us today.  If we’re going to make it, we need to be doers of the Word, not hearers only.
