The Lord’s Blessings Add No Sorrow

Scripture: Proverbs 10:22
Devotional Series: Money: Not the Root of All Evil
Teaching: Money: Not The Root Of All Evil pt. 2 (SUN_AM 2024-09-29) by Pastor Star R Scott

The three Hebrew children would not receive the dainties of the world system.  Let us just continue in the faith that we’ve walked in.  God is our source, He’s our strength, praise God.  The Bible says be very careful when you’re hanging out with rich men, and “if you’re given to appetite, put a knife to your throat” (Proverbs 23:2).  So many people are impressed with rich men and want to sit and take the crumbs that they might throw their way.  Put a knife to your throat, and let God make a way where there is no way.  Let God open doors that no men can open.  No man could put Joseph where he was and create those results.  Or Daniel.  Or Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.  If God is for us, nobody can be against us, praise God!  That’s how we approach this world’s system.

So, there’s nothing wrong with prosperity if God is the source of it.  Proverbs 10:22, verses we’re all very familiar with.  But the Scripture speaks and says, “The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.”  How great a sorrow it is to make decisions to be rich and now you have all of this abundance, and you have to live with the fact that you have forsaken God, and didn’t trust Him, and went man’s way.  Will you ever enjoy it?  God’s blessings add no sorrow.  Why?  Because the man of God understands why we’re blessed.  We’ll see it here in just a moment.  The Lord gives us power to obtain wealth to establish His covenant on the earth (Deuteronomy 8:18).

The first thought in our minds, those of us who are blessed of God, should be, “How can I further the kingdom with this?  How can I establish the covenant of God for generations?”  How do we train our children and our children’s children in the proper use of finance?  I’m not talking about laws of investment; I’m talking about laws of, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).  If you sow bountifully, you will reap bountifully (2 Corinthians 9:6).  Amen?

How many people are impressed with their own giving today when they throw little tokens God’s way?  You’re a giant if you tithe.  There is a law in the Scriptures.  It’s not how much you give; it’s how much you have left over after you’ve given.  Oh, that got quiet!  Jesus sat there all day and watched people contribute.  Many very wealthy, and then the widow and the mite.  He said, “She’s given more than everybody put together.  She didn’t give of her abundance; she gave of her necessity” (Mark 12:44).  The woman that the prophet called to and said, “Prepare a meal for me first.”  “We were just going to make this last little meal, my son and I, and eat it and die.”  He said, “Make it for me first.”  Recognize the kingdom, the order of God.  Could this be truly the man of God?  We all know the story.  The prophet spoke later and said, “Bring vessels, not a few” (2 Kings 4:3).  Let’s not limit Him.  Let’s be ready when God speaks to us to bring forth everything possible, and let Him bless us according to His abundance.

The Scripture says that He’ll open the windows of heaven and pour out blessings that we cannot contain.  Hallelujah!  It’s the God we serve.  In the hour we’re living, I believe that every one of us will be faced with the very same situation that the rich young ruler faced.  “Here’s what I want you to do: give it all and come and follow Me” (Matthew 19:21).  Do you know that you can give it without dispersing it?  It’s a heart issue.  I believe we’re all going to be faced with that.  This is not mine; this is God’s.

We’re coming into these last hours, whatever God wants to do, it’s His to do with and how He wants.  He moved on people individually, and He moved on the man of God who had the land and sold it and came and laid it at the apostle’s feet.  What did he say to the rest of them?  “You didn’t have to give; it was just an opportunity for you to give.  But you can’t say you’ve divested everything and that you’re a part of the vision and lie and hold it back to yourself.  “Has Satan put it in your heart to lie to the Holy Ghost?  Was this not yours?  Hold onto it!”  Just say, “No, I’m not giving it.”
