Silver and Gold Have I None
Scripture: Acts 3:6Devotional Series: Preparing for Persecution
Teaching: Preparing For Persecution pt. 4 (WED 2021-04-21) by Pastor Star R Scott
Jesus said, “The things that I’ve done shall you do, and greater things than these shall you do because I’ve gone to the Father.” Amen? We’re not doing less; we’re doing more than Jesus did. Don’t misunderstand me; it’s by Jesus, it’s for His glory, and when it says more, it doesn’t mean greater in quality but in quantity. It’s because now we all are filled with the Holy Spirit, and we all have the capacity to do what He did under the direction of Father by the power of the Holy Spirit. “I’ve gone to Father that you can do more, that this ministry will spread, that lives will be touched as you move in power.” We know the story: they’re walking into the temple, and the lame man is seeking alms, and all of a sudden, Peter stops; and he fastens his eyes on him, and he says, “Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee.” What do we have to give? What do we have to give a crippled, destitute world? If only we could open our eyes tomorrow when we go to work and see all of those people wearing their designer clothes and the people that appear to have their act together. This world is hurting; there are not very many people that have their act together. They hide it different ways but everybody needs the lordship of Jesus Christ in their lives. Let’s not look at them with our natural eyes; tomorrow, when you go look at all those people, see them crippled, see them destitute, beggars, and then let’s have compassion on them and share the love of God with them; amen?
“Silver and gold have I none, but don’t worry about it, that’s not what you need.” We’ve got people all caught up with wanting to go out and feed the poor people. They don’t need food; they need Jesus. The people came to hear Jesus preach; to hear the truth, and He kept them there so long that it said, “You know, these people are going to faint in the way. They’ve sat here and listened to the Word of God; we need to give them something to eat.” They said, “Two hundred pennyworth isn’t sufficient to buy food for these people.” “What do you have?” “Well, we have five loaves and two fishes.” “That’s enough; tell them to sit down. Give me that five loaves and two fishes.” And He blessed it and He began to feed everybody and everybody ate until they were full, and they took up twelve baskets of left overs. Hallelujah! But then what happened? The next opportunity, and Jesus is getting ready to minister to the multitudes, and the next thing you know, Jesus is saying, “Hey, what is it that you guys are here for anyway?” And their response would have been, “Well, you know, Your teaching was so profound, and I was just so illuminated.” And Jesus wasn’t buying any of it; He said, “You’re here because I fed you last time. (John 6:26) You’re not coming to seek the truth; you’re seeking to get a free meal, to get a handout.” Jesus didn’t mince words with those who were hypocrites, to those who were enemies of the truth and the kingdom of God. Jesus said, “The poor you will always have with you.” They were rebuking the lady that took that expensive perfume and poured it upon the feet of Jesus, and the response was, “What’s this doing? This is horrible; that money could have been taken and given to the poor.” And most of the church today would say, “Oh yes!” And Jesus said, “Wait a minute, people; I’m not going to be here much longer. She’s doing this to bring glory and honor to Me and whom I’m recognizing. I’m going to be taken out of your midst here very shortly; she’s used this properly to glorify God.” I want to tell you something: glorifying God trumps feeding the poor.
