What Would a Man Give?

Scripture: Matthew 16:26
Devotional Series: The Integrity of God's Word
Teaching: The Integrity Of God's Word pt. 2 (SUN_PM 2021-06-13) by Pastor Star R Scott

The Scripture says, “What would a man give in exchange for his soul?”  Amen?  What would you give to never lose the voice of Jesus, the voice of the Holy Ghost, to always be able to hear that still small voice?  I don’t know about you but when I pray the prayer, it comes from my innermost being with a fear like nothing else in my life, when I pray in repentance like David, “Take not thy Holy Spirit from me.”  We make those commitments to God and we mean it.  Isn’t it interesting how we make those great declarations and yet we sin over the small things?  The little foxes that distract us that become sins and weights that begin to entwine our hearts, as this parable says, and chokes the Word of God out of us.

Break up the fallow ground and seek the Lord until He comes; amen?  We’ve had, as a fellowship, a pretty good run.  Two or three times we were on the verge of revival and fainted.  We looked around and thought, “Look how busy we are.  Look how much we’re doing.  Look how much of evangelism we’re having.”  Beloved, we needed to seek the Lord until He was found of us!  Would it have been wise to shut all this other stuff down?  Maybe.  Can’t say.  What I’m challenging us with is if we get that next opportunity, let’s take it; amen?  “What do you mean if?”  Well, if we break up the fallow ground.  If we seek the Lord until He’s found.  “I will not turn You loose until You’ve blessed me,” praise God!  Would you say that’s how we’re praying?  Are we, as a community—is that where we are now as a community praying?  Our appetite for revival to be refreshed, to be renewed.  You all know what I’m talking about.  Oh, there’s nothing in the world like it, is there?

I believe the Holy Spirit’s speaking to us.  First of all, you notice it says sow to yourself.  Let’s not be worried about what other people are doing.  “Well, they’re not doing that.”  What’s that have to do with what God’s saying to you?  Sow to yourself righteousness; amen?  We’ll see as we go back to the parable but sow to yourself righteousness.  Because of that shallowness of heart and temptations and persecutions come and it says and immediately we’re offended for the Word’s sake.  What’ll keep you from fainting is sowing to yourself righteousness.

Don’t forget who you are in Jesus Christ; amen?  Don’t forget that you can do all things through Christ which strengthens you.  Stop focusing on your failures and start sowing to yourself righteousness.  Begin to say into the heavens what God has declared.  We are the recipients of all power and authority.  We are the church invincible, praise God!  The gates of hell will not prevail against us.  We will go forth weeping and bearing precious seed and come rejoicing with the sheeves that God brings forth thirty-, sixty-, and one-hundred-fold.  It’s time to seek the Lord.  What’s robbing us of that time?  Is there anything more precious than that time?  Is there a greater priority than fulfilling that mandate to go into all the world, than fulfilling that mandate of adorning ourselves with the whole armor of God?  It’s time to seek the Lord until He comes and rains righteousness upon us.
