He Who Finds a Wife

Scripture: Proverbs 18:22
Devotional Series: Husbands
Teaching: Husbands pt. 4 (SUN_PM 2024-08-11) by Pastor Star R Scott

Men, there may be a few of you, but there are not a whole lot of us men in here capable of herding these three little kids around at one time.  Wiping noses, including ours sometimes, and taking care of all of these situations during the day.  Getting the house clean, getting dinner ready, and whatever other ministries are taking place.  All of these different things.  Most men would be laid out on the sofa by 10 o’clock in the morning.  Why would we criticize?  Do you really think you’re capable of doing a better job than they are?  Of course not.  So why don’t you honor them?

Why don’t we show honor?  Why don’t we show respect?  Under the pressure of the load that they’re carrying daily, 24 hours a day, keeping that household.  So, don’t ever let these words come out of your mouth that are corrupt, but speak to the edifying; amen?  I think it’s important, too.  Some of us that even do appreciate our wives, we speak to others about how much we appreciate our wives and how great a job they’re doing, but don’t tell them.  Tell them how thankful you are for that gift that’s been given to you.  “For he that findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtains favor of the Lord.”

As we’re bringing this to a close, I think those are some of the things that are so vital for us to involve ourselves in, and at all times.  Showing honor, being thankful and understanding, that God makes no mistakes; amen?  Men, He created us for that role, to be overseers, and let’s think of ourselves in the same light as to why God chose Israel.  Not because they were so great, but because they were the least and God could show His glory in them; amen?  His strength, then, is seen in our weakness.  As earthen vessels, men, that the glory of God can flow through our lives, and what good we’re able to do, the glory and the excellency belongs to God and not to us.  So, anything that goes right in your home, God gets the glory; amen?  Because it’s He that works in us, willing and doing His good will in our lives.

Father, we thank You for Your Word.  We just ask that You would help us as fathers, as husbands, to represent Your meekness and Your gentleness and Your purity.  Lord, that we would move with a heart’s desire to fulfill our role of headship.  That we would cleanse our wives, that we would instruct our children.  That we would show honor, that we would dwell with our wives according to knowledge, that you might be glorified, Father, in Jesus’ name; amen.
