Let’s look in the book of Genesis for God’s desire for marriage. God’s desire for marriage is a god

Scripture: Genesis 2:24
Devotional Series: Wives
Teaching: Wives pt. 1 (WED 2024-08-14) by Pastor Star R Scott

The woman was in no way inferior to man at the time of creation.  When I say in no way, I’m not talking about inferiority intellectually or emotionally.  We’re talking about the fact that they were equal in all these ways.  Sin had not occurred yet, so she was not a subordinate, but she was of man.  She was called woman.  If you read back through a lot of the old commentaries and many of the different lexicons, there are two ways of really trying to understand this word “woman.”  One of them was not the way I suggested back in the ’80s, as many of you may remember.  Adam looked upon her and said, “Whoa, man!”  No, that’s not how it happened.  There could’ve been some of that in there, but we won’t make it a firm doctrine.  Some would describe it as meaning the “she-man.”  I think I lean a little more to the other rendering that’s been most popular for centuries, and that is the “womb man.”

So, we see the separation here of masculinity and femininity.  The “she-man.”  They are not the same.  Though Eve came from man, they are not the same.  And in chromosomes, man is XY and woman is XX—I believe that’s right.  And we realize, then, that they were one.  He took from Adam, and from him, created this creature in the likeness of God.  They were both made in the likeness of God.  I don’t want to get caught up in all of the creation aspects, because that’s not the important part.  What we’re studying here is, first of all, to realize that they are distinct entities.  They were co-laborers until the fall, and then woman was subordinated for her own protection, the Scripture says.  Each of their failures were addressed by God, and the consequences of their failure were made very clear.  So, that’s where we find ourselves here.  The rib—or one rendering is “side”.  There are a lot of different specifics you can get into, but none of it is that important.  The illustration that I give of the Polaroid, the negative being pulled out, I think, is one of the best illustrations.  It’s not biblical as that’s not a scriptural statement, but it’s an illustration that I think is one of the best.  It shows what took place when this woman appeared from Adam.  Bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh.

As they walked together and were fellowshipping with the Lord in the cool of the garden, the Spirit of God speaks and says, “And because of this bone of bone and flesh of flesh, a man will leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (Genesis 2:24).  They shall be one flesh.  So, this is the purpose, and everything we do—all of the decisions we’re making now in our lives and in our marriages—is to preserve that oneness.  Amen?  Everything that we do—the decisions that we’re making—are to be faithful to the call of God on your life.  He called you, and He placed you in that union.  We might take a moment, though, to remind ourselves: We made the choice, didn’t we?  But this is the will of God.  This is the order of God.  He that “…findeth a wife findeth a good thing…” (Proverbs 18:22), praise God!
