Don’t Fear the World
Scripture: Matthew 10:27-28Devotional Series: Where is My Fear?
Teaching: Where Is My Fear pt. 4 (WED 2024-05-29) by Pastor Star R Scott
There are always stereotypical things for different programs, but there’s the tongue-in-cheek. There’s the message that’s made, whether it’s about Wally Cox as the preacher–preachers are either mealy-mouthed idiots or con artists, as they are represented in different aspects of society. Many preachers have even been able to put their finger on these psychologists.
Have you ever noticed how they’re the ones that are always weird, and then have all these different issues? Well, they do, so many. I’m sure we don’t have anybody here majoring in psychology. If you do, change your major. “Well, Pastor, you can’t be telling people what to do.” Change your major! You are an enemy of God if that’s what you’re embracing as a method of helping humanity. Jesus is sufficient. Where is His fear? James 4:4 is clear, “To be a friend of the world is to be at enmity with and to be an enemy of God.”
Jesus goes on to finish this statement here. He’s talking about the fact that if we properly represent the kingdom of God, we’re going to be hated. “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved” (Matthew 10:22). You need to endure. There needs to be a consistency in your representation. He goes on in verse 27 and says this, “What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10:27-28).
As we continue to deify man, the creation, in our society today, and it begins to be accepted by the masses of the professed church, “Well, there are many ways.” Some Christians will be so bold as to say even today, professed fundamentalists, “Well, there are other paths.” “There’s just one God. There are other paths to God.” That’s true. There are many paths, but only one right path; amen? There’s only one straight and narrow way among this broad way of professed Christians.
When you look at the context, He’s speaking to those that profess to know Him. He’s speaking to a people that profess to have covenant with Him. He’s speaking to a people who say they are the people of Yahweh; their father is Abraham. This message went to the Jew first; amen? The Scripture says, in Isaiah 53, that they ignored Him, mocked Him, esteemed Him smitten of God, and ultimately rejected Him.
Many have come in. All of us came to God because He enabled us to see that we were sinners. We didn’t come up with that on our own. God revealed to us that we were sinners and God revealed to us, by His grace, sufficient faith to hear, believe, and receive the gospel. We are a chosen people. We were not chosen to be turned to our own way and our own will.
