Be Not Wise in Your Own Eyes
Scripture: Proverbs 3:6-7Devotional Series: Where is My Fear?
Teaching: Where Is My Fear pt. 1 (SUN_AM 2024-05-19) by Pastor Star R Scott
If we’re going to stand in this last hour, “lean not unto thine own understanding”; amen? Don’t try to learn the world’s methods and excel in them. Cast them down. Don’t lean to your own understanding, but “in all of thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes” (Proverbs 3:6-7), hallelujah!
Well, we won’t go back and spend a lot of time on it, but when it says, “your own eyes,” it’s really talking about our ability to represent the wisdom of the world. Those are the only two kingdoms there are: light and darkness. You don’t have a kingdom to yourself. Nothing originates from you. You are either restating the wisdom of the kingdom of darkness, the kingdom of this world, or you’re going to be representing the kingdom of God; amen? There is no neutral ground.
Beloved, we need to protect ourselves from the wisdom of this world. Let me remind you of one thing, you could be the wisest among those of this world, but the wisdom you’re promoting is earthly, sensual, and demonic. “This is neutral. It’s not a moral issue here. These are just things and thoughts and philosophies that cause society to advance and can advance my place in the world.” Can I remind you: you are only in this world; you are not of it; amen? Let’s listen closely to the wisdom of God. Let’s begin to make choices to turn from the wisdom of this world and the way they do things. That and that alone will preserve you in this hour that we’re living in.
The Holy Spirit here is telling us not to be wise in our own eyes. Fear the Lord. The church today is losing the fear of God. Many of us are losing the fear of God and are not even aware that many of these decisions we’re making, without spending time in prayer, that seem to be logical—this seems to be the way to do things. This is just kind of a sanctified intellect that we’ve talked about many times which applies more to guidance than it does to wisdom, to knowledge, to understanding.
Do not trust in this world, “lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” He’ll let us know “this is the way, walk ye in it” (Isaiah 30:21), praise God; amen?
