Restrained From Bringing

Scripture: Exodus 36:3-6
Devotional Series: Build Me a Sanctuary
Teaching: Build Me A Sanctuary pt. 1 (WED 2022-07-27) by Pastor Star R Scott

One of the most miraculous things you’ll read about in all of the Scriptures is in Exodus 36.  In verse 2 it says, “…every wise man, in whose heart the Lord had put wisdom, even every one whose heart stirred him up…”  Every man whose heart stirred him up.  Can you see something?  The Lord put into their hearts.  Are you ready to have God talk to you?  Are you ready to have God put it into your heart?  I think it’s a time that we could take and ask ourselves a question.  In our own minds, in our own hearts, what value do we place on what God has given us here, both spiritually and for the natural tabernacle that God has blessed us with?  I’ve got a question to ask.

It’s hard to hear a statement that was made, like I had mentioned of this second-generation young man, prime of health and life and energy, who came and very gladly took of all of the education buildings and played in the gymnasium and up at young adults and fellowshiped, but said, “This isn’t my thing.”  We sure don’t want to enter in to these last days with that kind of an emphasis on self.  I don’t care what it pertains to.  This old man has to die, this self, selfishness, self-indulgences.  I’m talking to myself first.  What an hour that we need to learn to empty ourselves out for the kingdom of God, the work of God, whether it be preaching to lost souls, whether it be lifting up one another’s hands and caring for one another in times of need, whether it be the different aspects of our times of intercession.

One of the vital things during Nehemiah’s day: the intercessors took time to pray, believing God for speedy work, getting it right the first time—nothing’s worse than having to do stuff over again—and that the wisdom of God would be there, the strength of God would be there.  We need to pray about this stuff and not just assume that everything’s going to go well.  We can all be a part of that.

As he goes down, this is such a blessing here.  The Lord put it in their hearts.  Verse 3 says,
“And they brought yet unto him free offerings every morning…  And they spoke, then, unto Moses, those that were overseeing the work, and said, The people bring much more than enough… And Moses gave commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, Let neither man nor woman make any more work for the offering of the sanctuary.  So, the people were restrained from bringing.” (Exodus 36:3-6).  I’m talking about the biggest miracle in the Bible.  I’ve only been in one church in my life, in these fifty-some years of serving the Lord, that I’m aware of, where the people had to be restrained from giving—and that was this church.  The project we were doing, and we had to do just that.  I was telling this to a pastor from another church and he looked at me like I was crazy.  He said, “You did what?”  I said, “I told the people, ‘Stop giving; we’ve got more than enough right now.  We’ll let you know when we need some more.’”  He was like, “You what?!”  By the way, that’s where we are on the books right now.  For those of you that have had a heart to give and give, we have more than enough to meet what is outstanding at this time.
