Dig Into the Rock

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:4
Devotional Series: Think It Not Strange
Teaching: Think It Not Strange pt. 1 (WED 2021-07-28) by Pastor Star R Scott

Look at our society today, look at the philosophies.  In one of our camps the question was asked, “Can you name a few evil things?”  They were trying to identify, in these little minds, what they perceived sin to be.  “Can you identify something that’s very evil?”  One of the little girls just shot up her hand and said, “Guns.”  Guns aren’t evil, people are evil.  Guns are guns!  Guns could be used for many good things.  There could be a day when you need one, when there’s no food in Safeway.  Around here, deer are so prolific we run over them in our cars.  But you might have to shoot a deer and eat that venison.  (For all of you vegans and all of these other things, let me remind you the Bible says that meat is good.  It’s to be received with thanksgiving; amen?  Now you can go veg out all you want, but leave me and my steak alone).

But this little child, this is one of the things that’s evil.  That poor child needs to be taught guns are not evil, people are evil.  But today’s society believes nobody’s evil.  “Men are basically good and their environment has made them the way they are.”  The Bible says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God,” amen?  What’ll help us today is for all these little people to understand they’re sinners.  They need to be born again, hallelujah!  What needs to be done is to capture some of those criminals that are running around shooting people and put them to death because the Bible says, “Life for life,” amen?  You want to do away with murderers?  Start killing them.  To murder is wrong, to kill can be righteous.  But the world thinks from a completely different perspective than God concerning truth and justice.  A few of those statements I just made, make those statements, even in professed evangelical churches today, and you’ll get some negative responses.  It’s because they have another Jesus.  It’s because the Bible is not true to them, they pick and choose from the Bible what they want to be true.

This Bible is absolute truth, infallible, inerrant in every way; amen?  When we know that, it makes life pretty easy.  By the Spirit’s enabling us, the grace of God, we fulfill His commandments walking in this truth.  By doing so, the Bible says it is a lamp unto our feet, we won’t stumble in this life.  It purifies our souls, Peter says; amen?  And in the midst, then, of those afflictions that the apostle said are coming, we stand strong.  Why?  Because Jesus said in His teaching on the Sermon on the Mount that if we are hearers and doers of the Word, we have dug deep into the rock.  When these storms come, our house will not collapse, it will not be shaken down.  In fact, when you dig into the rock of God’s Word, you won’t even be shaken; amen?  So many of the churches today are not built on that foundation.  There’s going to be a whole lot of shaking going on.
