Do You Have His Peace?

Scripture: John 14:27
Devotional Series: Resurrection Life
Teaching: Resurrection Life pt. 1 (SUN_AM 2021-04-04) by Pastor Star R Scott

Jesus was beaten.  He was scourged, nails were driven into His hands and feet, a spear was thrust into His side.  Romans who did this every day, who were experts at it, went to break His legs, but the prophets of old prophesied that not a bone in His body would be broken.  Why would they break His legs?  Because these men, as they were hanging upon that cross, would use their legs to push themselves up to take a breath, because their lungs were collapsed from having their weight compressing their chests.  They would pull up with their arms and push with their legs to take another breath.  To speed crucifixion up, they would come and break their legs, so they could no longer push themselves up, and they would suffocate.  What a horrible way to die, suffocation.  They went to break His legs, and men who do this every day said, “He’s already dead.  We don’t need to break His legs.”  They didn’t think He swooned.  The power of God entered into that tomb and raised Jesus up.

We’ve just been through the COVID-19 thing, just about coming out the other side of it.  It’s going to be so nice to get back to normalcy.  People say there’s a new normal.  There’s no new normal in my life.  There’s only one normal.  I don’t do “new” normal.  Why?  Why should you and I, as believers, expect no “new” normal?  Because Jesus is raised from the dead.  Jesus makes alive our mortal bodies.  Jesus is there to answer our prayers.  Jesus never changes.  Praise God!  Many of the great manifestations of that that we’ve seen in this last year, as God has touched us as a fellowship through this COVID-19, and to see what God’s done to keep people whole and to keep people strong.  Hallelujah!  We give Him all the glory and all the praise for it.

I’ve had some people come, and they say, “I know you were close to our brother who recently passed away.  How are you doing?”  I said, “I’m doing great!”  I really am.  I can’t even explain how peaceful and non-emotional I am.  My peace I give unto you (John 14:27), amen?  The first thing I shared with the family was, Hallelujah!  He’s gone home to be with the Lord.  He’s finished the race.  He’s with Jesus.  That’s what we’re trying to do here.  Hallelujah!  The Bible does say for those of us believers, we should mourn at birth and rejoice at death.  You say, “Why?”  Because you’re being born into this lousy sinful world.  This world stinks when it’s looked at through the eyes of righteous men.  We look at the sin and the blasphemy of the God’s name, people today mocking God, mocking the Scriptures.  Today, they’re saying the most dangerous people in America are white Evangelicals.  Think about that!  Now, how do you make a statement like that?  We’re leaving all this behind.  In a day when you think not, the Son of man cometh.  Jesus is coming back for His church.  He’s gone and prepared a place, and He’s coming back soon.
