Devotional Series: Sound Doctrine
Teaching: Sound Doctrine pt. 1 (WED 2021-02-17) by Pastor Star R Scott

What does the life of sound doctrine look like on a daily basis?  In John 7, Jesus said, “My doctrine is to do the will of He that sent Me and if any man will do His will, he shall know the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.  He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory, but he that seeketh His glory that sent him, the same is true and no unrighteousness is in Him.”  So, here we see then that one of the preeminent things of all this false doctrine was this.  So much of it, and look, it’s going to increase in this hour.  We thought it’s been bad as we’ve looked over the decades.  But the focal point is going to be the personalities not the message.  The superstars, the famous.  He brags on it, but is it really necessary that Kenneth Copeland become the first billionaire preacher?  We find these personalities that people flock to.  “This is my Bible.  I am what it says I am.”  That’s Joel Osteen.  They do that every service.  “This is my Bible.”  Well bless God, you ought to start living it!  “What is he teaching that’s wrong?”  Let me tell you what he’s not preaching.  You never heard once the word “hell” come out of his mouth.  They won’t call “sin” sin.  He would not look Larry King in the eye when he had the opportunity.  Larry King looked him in the eye and said, “Do you mean to tell me, as a Jew, that if I don’t accept Jesus as my personal savior then I’m going to hell?”  “Well, I wouldn’t do that.”  I would!  There’s no other name under heaven; amen?  If you claim to be some kind of a Jew.  What advantage is there to being a Jew, Paul asked in Romans.  Much in every way, for unto us has been given the oracles of God.  You say that you are the fathers and that you’re the guardians of the truth and the Word of God.  “The Bible,” Jesus went on to say, “is that that speaks of Me; You can’t read the Bible and not find Me.”  So, in this day we’re looking at these teachers and false prophets.  They elevate themselves, whatever their philosophies might be.  They’re nothing more than motivational speakers.  How tragic the church is today!  And yet it’s been prophesied, there’s a broad way.  Who’s that written to?  Those that are already in the way.

What doctrine did the early church see?  In Acts, are eyewitness accounts of what happened the day Jesus ascended into heaven.  He told them to go to Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Father, and then the Holy Spirit was poured out.  Acts 2:16 says, “This is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel who said it would come to pass in the last days that I would pour out my spirit upon all flesh,” (prophesying out of Joel 2:28).  You want some sound doctrine?  Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy and your young men shall see visions and your old men shall dream dreams.  That’s sound doctrine.  Then he says in verse 21, “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”  Not if you’re elect, predestined, or irresistibly graced.  Call on the Lord and you’ll be saved.  Acts 2:22-24 says, “Hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of all of you, as you know.  Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: Whom God has raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.”  That’s sound doctrine.  You see, this message of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus is the central revelation of the gospel that we’re to be preaching.  This is the sound doctrine that we, as the church, are to be promoting.  That it’s a free gift and that it’s to whosoever will may come, praise God!
