Surrender to His Lordship

Scripture: John 7:16
Devotional Series: Sound Doctrine
Teaching: Sound Doctrine pt. 1 (WED 2021-02-17) by Pastor Star R Scott

In Mark, Chapter 4, we’re familiar with the parable of the sower.  The phrase that starts that parable off says Jesus taught them in His doctrine, amen?  Then He gives the parable of the sower.  What is sound doctrine?  As we look at it here in the teaching of Jesus, it’s not about all of the intricacies of the law.  The great truth that Jesus is putting forth here is this, you are responsible for providing a good heart to God’s perfect seed.  The law of Genesis making it very clear, every seed produces after its own kind, amen?  Isn’t that what creation told us?  If you’ll plant the Bible in a good heart, you’re going to get Jesus.  You’re going to get holiness.  You’re going to get love.  You’re going to have a life of obedience.  Your will, will be to do the will of He that has redeemed you, praise God, and to finish His work.  Your appetite will be for the Word of God.  I desire it more than my necessary food; amen?  Jesus, in His teaching on the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 7:28) says “they were astonished at His doctrine” because He taught them as one having experience, having power, having authority, having a relationship with God.  You can tell a difference with people teaching the Bible.  You can tell a difference between those who have a relationship with God and those who are just great scholars and orators.  The Scripture says it this way.  You don’t need a man to teach you, but it’s that same anointing that teaches you, amen?  That power of the presence of God, the indwelling Holy Spirit.  What is good doctrine?  What’s sound doctrine?  Get your heart right!

In the first sermons that were preached in the book of Acts, the message is, “Repent”, amen?  The twenty‑first century American church needs to repent.  There’s a lot of repentance that needs to go on in the best of churches.  I’m not talking about the whore church; I’m talking about the real church.  Remember about judgment beginning in the house of the Lord.  Remember the broad way versus the narrow way.  How many of you know when you get saved carnality doesn’t just go instantaneously; amen?  That’s the role of the church!  To teach people that Jesus has empowered them to live in authority over their flesh.  That’s what edifies the church.  So, while you’re doing that you put up with a bunch of messes.  But there’s a difference between carnal droppings and leaven.  There’s a difference between carnal messes and wolves in sheep’s clothing; amen?  There’s a process of us growing up into Christ, desiring that sincere milk of the Word of God and going onto strong meat.  It’s very distinguishable between that and doctrines of devils, false teachers and those who lie in wait to deceive.  So, the church is not put off by carnality in the life of someone whose doctrine grows on a daily basis.  Those who by reason of use are having their senses exercised through obedience to discern good and evil; amen?  As we choose to obey, our souls are purified.

In John 7:16, Jesus said, “My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.”  Now can you think about any systematic theology that Jesus taught?  There isn’t any.  “My doctrine is to do the will of He that sent Me,” just to obey the commandments of God.  In the Sermon on the Mount, He begins to bring illumination to them and says, “You’ve heard it said, but I say unto you.”  Though we know that the Word of God is good and perfect, Jesus says, sound doctrine understands that the law is not sufficient to bring you to regeneration.  The law is the schoolmaster that brings you to what My redemption afforded you.  Sound doctrine is always a higher truth than the traditions of men or the letter of the law.  Sound doctrine is found in the person of Jesus Christ, our surrender and obedience to His lordship.
