Whosoever Believeth
Scripture: John 3:16Devotional Series: Sound Doctrine
Teaching: Sound Doctrine pt. 1 (WED 2021-02-17) by Pastor Star R Scott
In the last days, when false doctrine is being propagated, we’re not going to be ignorant. We will not be one of those that’s deceived. Now remember, they’re deceiving and being deceived, so it’s very dangerous. What makes it so dangerous is all they do is quote the Bible! They talk about Jesus and they talk about love and they talk about evangelism. I personally believe that many, or most of them, have entered into bibliolatry. I believe they’re people that worship the Bible and not God because they don’t know the God of the Bible, but they know the Bible. “Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth,” is a sign of these last days. Beloved, we don’t just need to know the Bible, we need to know the God of the Bible. How vital it is. His sheep know His voice and another they will not follow.
I don’t want to bog down on Calvinism, but I don’t think it’s very difficult to take a brand‑new believer, or even an unbiased pagan, and tell them that God is love, (I think everybody can agree on that part, at least) and then say this God of love arbitrarily, and for His good pleasure, without cause or purpose, selects part of His creation to be damned and tormented for eternity just because He feels like it. I don’t know of anybody that sees that as love or just, and those are two phrases that are used about God in the Scripture as much as any. How we can then put that upon our God and believe that we are preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ? Jesus’ blood was not shed for an elect few. It was shed for the whole world and it was done before the foundations of the world. It was unto all and will come upon all them that believe for there is no difference, the Scripture says. You see how dangerous—how good it sounds, but in reality, denying the Lord that bought them. In fact, they will fight you tooth and nail, oppose the Holy Ghost that’s in you, oppose the Word that you bring and yet, as the Judaizers of old, count themselves as those who are the guardians of the truth. How strong that spirit is. How tremendous that counterfeit is. Yet so many of us want to pat them on the back and hug and call them brethren. Beloved, we need to be careful who we bid, “God speed” to. “Well, what makes us so exclusive? What makes us confident that we’re the ones that are right?” Wherefore by their fruit you shall know them.
So, we need to have sound doctrine. What is the truth? The true foundational doctrine of the Word of God. How do we know? Is there, or is there not, judgment and a curse put upon those who add to or take away from the Word of God; amen? So, when you take a statement that’s all-inclusive and the Bible says, “Unto all, whosoever…” and then inject “of the elect” it doesn’t mean “whosoever” it means “whosoever of the elect, unto all the elect.” We begin to see an adding to. How many of you think the Holy Ghost could have added that word if that’s what He was trying to convey at that moment? Holy men of God speaking as they were moved by the Holy Ghost and missed “elect,” and miss it in a lot of places? These teachers are not innocent people. These are people who are lying in wait to deceive. These are not accidents. This is bringing God into subordination to a thought process, a doctrine, a revelation that a man had hundreds of years ago. I’d rather believe as it’s written, praise God. I do not need you, Mr. Calvin, to interpret this Bible for me. Why? Because this Bible, as it pertains to the plan of redemption, does not need to be interpreted. It needs to be believed and obeyed just as it’s written. This false doctrine is going to kill a lot of people.
